A spectacular edition of Spain’s most important comics festival
The comic strips lovers have an unmissable event in Barcelona from 15th until 18th of May in the fairground of Montjuic where once again the International Comics Fair will take place. It is the most important comic strips festival in Spain and one of Europe’s oldest comics festival, along with Lucca Comics & Games (1966) and the Festival International de la bande dessinée d’Angoulême (1974), among others.
In 2014, the Fair wants to celebrate its 32nd edition in style with an impressive expansion of the exhibition area, which has as much as 32,000 square meters, and three exhibitions dedicated to celebrating the birthday of three very dear characters: Batman (Gotham city’s superhero, created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane) who is turning 75 years old, Wolverine (of Len Wein and Herb Trimpe) who is already 40 and the good-natured and strong Popeye, the sailor (of Elzie Crisler Segar) who is turning 85.
However, the theme of the Festival will be the war genre. The Fair will have a big installation dedicated to that kind of comic strips, coinciding with commemorations such as the centenary of World War I and the third hundredth anniversary of the end of the Spanish succession war.
Comics at war will enable you to follow a chronological journey through the most important wars, starting with prehistory until our times and it will have about 200 original strips and war illustrations, in addition to having several sections dedicated to war correspondents of exiles and genocides. Thanks to the collaboration of historical reconstruction associations and to half a hundred people in character, some of the most famous scenes will be recreated in live dioramas.
One of the moments the fans will be expecting the most is the signing of originals, along with the workshops and the round tables. This year the presence of many international guests has already been confirmed, such as Mike Carey (Lucifer), Andrew Wildman (Transformers), journalist Joe Sacco, specialized in war comics (Palestine), Audrey Spiry (In Silence), Chloe Cruchaudet (Mauvais genre), Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets), Manuele Fior (Five thousand kilometres per second), Pasquale del Vecchio (WW2.2. The other world war) and R.M. Guera (Django Unchained), among others.
